Day 0
I'm at the very initial stages of developing this site. The purposes of the site is to showcase photographic portfolios from around the web. I often see blog posts that contains articles titled "100 best photography portfolios" but i'm yet to come across a dedicated site - would love to hear of any?? In the initial stages i will likely be the sole contributor to portfolios to the site but hope that others will be interested enough to make suggestions and also rate the portfolios on the site and ultimately create discussions around them.
Along with an interest in photography, you might have quessed that im into web design/development. My weapon of choice is Drupal, an open source CMS. For those that are interested i will also be commenting regularly on the development of the site, modules used, challenges faced, etc. The advent of Drupal 7 has given me the final incentive to get the site up and running. I have used Drupal Gardens as a way of creating a fully functional starting point for the site but imagine that it will change substantially over time. In the first few days i've already had to add the link module to allow inclusion of links to the portfolios. I've also just installed the inline registration module so people can sign-up for the site more easily when they want to suggest a portfolio. And i've also installed the rate module to enable the rating of portfolios by logged in users.
Finally, i'd like to comment on some copyright issues. The intention of this site is NOT to re-publish photography portfolios or become a professional photography directory. You'll notice that i will be including screenshots of the homepages of the photographers mentioned. I believe that this does not infringe on copyright, as i see it often on reputable blogs, but am happy to be corrected and will immediately rectify any infringements. I will NEVER re-produce portfolio photographs on this site without permission. This will create some user experience issues as visitors will be required to leave the site to view the various portfolios. This one issue is probably the most significant design/development issue facing the site.
I hope you enjoy and will contribute to the success of the site as a quality source of photographic inspiration.
